Borag Thungg, Earthlet

Just picked up 2000AD Prog 1776 featuring the second part of Brendan McCarthy and Al Ewing's The Zaucer of Zilk. Wacky stuff! You can check out the artwork for Part 1 over at tumblr.

Also on the shelves this week is Judge Dredd Megazine 322 containing the penultimate episode of Strange & Darke: New Blood. You can see my flats for this here.

Let the Phantasmagoria Commence

Here's the cover to 2000AD Prog 1775 featuring The Zaucer of Zilk (Part: 1) with colours by Len – I did the flats for this so I think it counts as my first 2000AD cover! I've also been flatting the interior strip, and boy is it weird!

The realm of Zilk, on the fringes of the imagination. Ruled over by the Zultan, figurehead of the Zilk dynasty, it’s a world where science and magic meet – and none is more powerful, or more famous, than the Zaucer himself. Vain, arrogant and accustomed to his celebrity status, he’s the wizard of the royal court – and many would like to see him removed permanently...

Darkwing Duck Annual #1

Just found some flats I did for Darkwing Duck Annual # 1. They are from a story called "Toy With Me," by writer Ian Brill and artist Sabrina Alberghetti.

Quackerjack steals a crazy invention that was originally used to turn people and objects into video game characters and props (the subject of an old episode of the cartoon, I believe), now modified to turn people into toys—toys that obey him. His plan is to use it to turn everyone who plays World of Whifflecraft into toys

I just love the cover for this – it's a great pastiche of the classic Bolland The Killing Joke.

Pictures: Sabrina Alberghetti.  Final colours: Lisa Moore

Batman and Robin: The Musical

I doubt that Arnold's singing voice sounds this good. But I'd totally pay to see this on Broadway! Move over Bono and Spider-Man.

Pink's not a colour?

In a blog post, Robert Krulwich – of Radiolab – noted that there is no pink in a rainbow. Pink is a combination of red and violet, two colors, which, if you look at a rainbow, are on the opposite sides of the arc. That’s where the trouble lies. Pink can’t exist in nature without a little rainbow-bending help, which would allow the shades of red and violet to commingle. This is leading scientists to believe, as Krulwich puts it, that “pink is a made-up colour.” Krulwich explains:
I know, of course, that all colors are just waves of light, so every color we “see,” we see with our brains. But what this video says is that there is no such thing as a band of wavelengths that mix red and violet, and therefore, pink is not a real wavelength of light. That’s why pink is an invention. It’s not a name we give to something out there. Pink isn’t out there.
So there you have it – pink is just the wishful thinking of our brain blending the red and violet wavelengths together to create the colour of our favourite Panther.
